The alarm clock you can’t buy

August 11, 2025 — Yato

Prelude

Some days I wake up before any noise starts.

No alarms, no phones ringing. Just something inside pulling me up.

Sometimes it’s excitement. Sometimes it’s stress. Sometimes it’s just knowing I have to.

Whatever it is, it gets me moving.

I. My favourite alarm clock

I used to wake up because I wanted to, not because I had to.

It wasn’t about routines or discipline. It was about wanting to start the day because something mattered.

A project, a person, even just breakfast.

That feeling made mornings worth it.

II. The fade

Then the spark faded.

Mornings became mechanical. Obligations piled up.

I woke up because I must, not because I wanted to.

I realized it then. I’ve lost my favourite alarm.

III. The facade

But the thing about alarm clocks is, they wear many faces.

Sometimes it’s curiosity or passion.

Sometimes it’s responsibility. The kind that drags you out even when you don’t want to move.

Sometimes it’s desperation, the weight of bills, deadlines, or people who depend on you.

It might not feel like the kind of alarm you want, but it’s still an alarm.

IV. The journey

When excitement is gone, or the weight feels too much, I start small.

A quiet moment. A cup of coffee. A deep breath.

I remind myself why I started.

I look for one thing —just one— that makes tomorrow worth waking up for.

Finale

I haven’t found my favorite alarm clock back yet.

And for anyone else who’s lost it or still searching, may we find it, together.
